Topics: Container Orchestration

Score defines workloads in a platform-neutral format and renders them through platform-specific implementations.

Workload specification tool that generates platform-agnostic deployment manifests. Define a workload once, output to Kubernetes, Docker Compose, Nomad, or custom targets.

How it works

  • Score file (score.yaml): declarative workload spec — container image, ports, environment variables, volumes, dependencies
  • Score implementation (CLI + provisioners): translates Score files into platform-specific config. score-compose for Docker Compose, score-k8s for Kubernetes, etc.
  • One Score file → multiple output formats. No lock-in.

Key concepts

  • Workload: a deployable unit (service, job, cron)
  • Resource: external dependency (database, message queue, storage, DNS)
  • Provisioner: plugin that resolves resources for a specific platform
