Mac fan not spinning up

Sometimes, the fan of an iMac or Macbook might not spin up. This will cause the CPU and/or GPU to be throttled before it gets too hot.

This issue can often be fixed by an SMC reset.

There are also tools like iStatMenus that can control the fan and turn it up more than the system would in order to cool the machine faster.
