Filesystem layering in Fedora Silverblue

Topics: Fedora Silverblue

While the actual root filesystem of the OS is immutable, Silverblue layers a writable filesystem on top to allow certain changes. For example, the user groups list which is modified during package installations resides read-only at /usr/lib/group. The writable file /etc/group is used to add and modify specific group details.
